What are the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals?
We’d like to think of them as a blueprint of what humanity and our Planet could look like in an ideal world.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are the17 global goals set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.
The 17 SDGs are: (1) No Poverty, (2) Zero Hunger, (3) Good Health and Well-being, (4) Quality Education, (5) Gender Equality, (6) Clean Water and Sanitation, (7) Affordable and Clean Energy, (8) Decent Work and Economic Growth, (9) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, (10) Reducing Inequality, (11) Sustainable Cities and Communities, (12) Responsible Consumption and Production, (13) Climate Action, (14) Life Below Water, (15) Life On Land, (16) Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, (17) Partnerships for the Goals.
And as much as progress definitely has been made, we are nowhere near being close to saying with certainty that collectively, all countries around the world are towards the right path and by 2030, we would be living in Utopia.
What we can say with certainty, however, is that every small action — be it turning off your tap whilst brushing your teeth, or replacing a household item with a sustainable option — contributes towards the end goal we have for ourselves.
Education is at the forefront of it all, because not only do we want to be able to provide access to it on a global scale, but also because teaching the impact-driven solutions to the problems we face collectively has the potential to shift our goals from choices — to actions — to results.
Global Impact Network and Thought Africa are united in the latter goal. We are two companies very different from each other in many aspects, but very similar in the fact that we stand for all that above, we stand for making progress look feasible, fun and interactive.
